Day 7: Monday, 8/23/10, Skagway

First on the agenda in Skagway. . .Paul and Asher pile on top of Jonah!

The whole gang deboard the boat. . .

. . .and embark on a Street Car Tour of the old gold rush town.

We could see the cruise ship from a look-out point on the outskirts of town. Since the end of the gold rush, tourism - specifically, cruise passengers - are the main source of income. There are about 800 year-round residents in Skagway, which swells to about 2,000 during the 5-month tourism season. On average, cruise ships bring about 20,000 tourists to town each day of the season.

Fog on the mountain cares for no tourist.

After the official tour, Safta took Paul back to the ship, Grandma Shelly and Mommy wandered around the many tourist traps, er charming shoppes, and Daddy took cousin Jonah out for some crabs.

Stuffed like a crab!

After consuming their crustaceans, Daddy and Jonah wandered around town. . .

. . .where Jonah became sworn in as a deputy ranger.

When we got back to the ship, we found our towels had been magically transformed into a turtle!
