Two Boys, One Basket

Also - Two Boys, One Castle

And Two Boys, One Leap Frog Play Table

(For those who get the title reference - shame on you!)

Master of Disaster: He's Super Cereal, You Guys

Wall-to-wall Cheerio carpeting? Just what Mommy's always wanted. . .

Yup, the whole "spill proof" cup worth of cereal. . .

At least I know that these cheerio's are relatively clean. He has a habit of grazing from the floor, much like a puppy.

New Food: Milk

Here Joss, try this cow milk in a cup!

Blast! What is this vile drink you have given to me?

Where's my mommy milk? *sniff*

New Food: Cheese Stick, or: Picnic at the Dr's office

Wednesday, Feb 9, 2011, Joss had his 12 month check up! Dr. S was running a little behind due to an urgent care case in the next exam room, so we settled in to wait picnic-style!

Joss loved playing with those little wagon-wheel crackers. He also kept trying to share them with that handsome baby in the mirror.

After the appetizer, it was time for the next course - pumpkin-banana puree, which smells like cake! Joss can feed himself these handy pouches. =)

And now for the best course - Mozarella Stick! (Mommy watched Joss like a hawk, making sure he didn't choke.) Yummmm!

So, Joss is doing very well. He's self feeding (see above), crawling like crazy, vocalizing almost all the time, recognized his name, and knows who Mommy, Daddy, and Paul are. He tolerated the exam well, except for the lying down parts - he's too busy a baby to lie down!

Joss is in the 25% for weight (down from 50% last exam, but that's due to the drastic increase in activity and the transitioning to solid foods, and it perfectly normal around 9-12 months), remained in the 50% for height, and - oh yeah - 95% for head circumference. Our little Charlie Brown.

Paul likes cake, too.

Just in case there was any question about that. Yes, that is a streak of yellow frosting down the side of his head. Not sure how it got there.

Just want oooonnnnneeee more piece of cake. Mommy, just want your icing.

Denied Mommy's icing, Paul resorts to drastic measures.

Daddy gets his icing from the yummiest source. . .Joss' face. . .

. . .and Paul's face.

New Food: CAKE!!!

Oooh - pretty fire!

Hrm. . .not sure about this "icing" thing. . .

Lemme think about it. . .

. . .maybe one more taste, to be sure. . .

. . .OK, really, just one more try. . .

. . .

I LOVE CAKE!

NomNomNom!!!

Joss was soooooo wired on sugar. After his bath, he usually nurses himself drowsy. Last night, he nursed a little, then began rolling around on Mommy's lap, playing peek-a-boo with no one in particular, then doing this "pretend like he's going to nurse, then pull away, make a silly face, then crack up giggling" thing that was freaking hilarious. He finally crashed about an hour after bedtime. . .

Happy First Birthday Joss!

Well hello!

Do you like my hat?

I've disappeared! It's magic!

Ha - I'm right here! Fooled you! Happy Birthday to me!

Oh, darling Joss, it's been quite a year. You burst into this world of your own volition - Mommy didn't even have to push, she just held on for the ride - and have been making your own way since then.

You were so tiny, and spent 6 long weeks in the NICU, tangled in monitor wires and feeding tubes. Look at you now! You are crawling all over the house, you eat real people food like it's going out of style, you nurse with luxurious abandon, you sing and chatter, and you love to bang two toys together to see how they sound.

You are a sweet, loving boy, and are generally cheerful. As long as you are fed. And clean and dry. And rested. But when you are not happy, you scream like hot pokers are being stabbed through your feet. Wowza. . .

Your sleeping is still rather erratic - some nights you sleep from 9pm-5am, other night you wake for cuddles at 1, 2, 3, and then ready to eat at 4. So, Mommy is a little too tired to say exactly what she wants to in this letter to you. Please forgive me. Just know what we are so happy to have you with us, and are so grateful you are cheerful and playful and growing so big.

We love you lots, lil Monkey Butt. Happy first birthday, Joss.

What?!?

So, I picked the boys up from day care tonight. We walked across the slushy parking lot, I opened the car door for Paul to climb in, and walked around the other side to buckle Joss into his car seat. I looked up from tightening Joss' straps to see Paul licking the bottom of his boot.

"What are you doing?!?" I gasped, unable to hide my revulsion.

Paul looked at me, genuinely perplexed, and calmly replied, "Eating rock salt."

Florida Recap Part 5: More Family

We were so lucky to see family we don't always get to see. Here's Paul and cousin Jen, Beren's best Facebook buddy.

We missed Mommy and Joss who came home early. But we had a terrific time with the Zwerlings (and a Kahn and a Neumann).

Daddy, Jen, & Gina enjoy some martinis.

We had a wonderful time in Florida. Can't wait to come down again soon!

Florida Recap Part 4: At the Beach

We had one good beach day. Paul LOVES the ocean!

You may have wondered, how does the ocean get all of that sand? Here is your answer:

Paul and Grandpa dig and build.

The big ocean

Florida Recap Part 3: At the Fair

We went to the South Florida Fair with Aunt Marjorie and Jason. Animals, rides, and food on a stick! Joss was sooooooo excited.

Aunt Margie - Master of Double Dutch

Paul was a terrific magician's assistant

What did you do with that wand?

Where is the red hanky? Ala kazam!

Paul on the Farm

Off he goes into the wild blue yonder.

We can't bear how cute this is. (Sorry).

The family posing for the camera.

Bye bye!

Florida Recap Part 2: Playing Indoors

We did a LOT of visiting and playing indoors at Grandma & Grandpa's house. Joss really started crawling everywhere and getting into everything. He loves every toy he could get his drooly hands on!

"Be quiet! I'm on a call!"

We spent lots of time at Bubbie Barbara's house too. Paul has grown sooooooo much since last time he was measured on Bubbie's wall. Joss had his first measurement - what a big boy!

A doll, a doll. Paulie wants a doll.
