When the kids were little, blogging every day was a given. Now that they're older...well, the posts get less and less frequent. Still, without physical albums filled with printed photos, the blog is what we've got!

We had a little snow this winter - the worst in decades. Joss mostly didn't seem to mind.

Sunday before New Years was a bright, sunny, post-snow day.

Where did winter go?

We didn't have much snow this winter, so when it did snow, we tried to take advantage of it. Mostly we just went sledding around the house.

Who needs a sled? We have a wheelbarrow!

More Snow Fun

Apparently, the Boston area has had more snow so far this year than it's usual annual average. Woo-hoo! On Friday, Joss and Daddy went into school and work, respectively, so Mommy and Paul had a Mommy-Paul playdate!

Daddy shoveled the driveway before he left in the morning, but by 9:30am, there were another 4-5 inches of light, flaky powder. And the ice/sludge barrier at the end of the drive from the snowplows. Mommy and Paul decided to go out and clear the drive.

Even though it was still snowing.

Well, Mommy shoveled the snow. . .and Paul. . .

. . .Paul decided to eat all the snow.

Whew, there's a lot of snow out here. . .

Maybe I can eat the snowflakes before they hit the ground?

With the help of our neighbor (Thank you, Karen!), the driveway was cleared in reasonably quick order, and Paul waving to the snow plow drivers kept them from blocking us back in with ice/sludge. (Seriously - the guy swerved to miss the base of our drive way - thanks so much, Mr. Plow!)

Once Paul's face was completely encrusted with frozen snot, it was time to go inside and explore some opposites: Hot Chocolate and Snow Ice Cream!

Gather lots of CLEAN snow in a bowl.
In a separate bowl or cup, add a splash of vanilla, a tablespoon of sugar, and some milk (use chocolate milk for chocolate flavor!). Stir to mix well.
Add in heaping spoonfuls of snow until all is smooth and creamy.
Eat fast - it melts really quickly!

Mmmmm. . .hot chocolate.

Second big snow of the winter

The first big snow was Christmastime, but the second big snow happened January 9, 2011. This time, Paul was prepared with hat, mittens, scarf, boots, and car brush.

Paul's first real snow-day!

While this is technically Paul's third winter, he never really went out in the snow to play. Because of this, Mommy and Daddy were woefully underprepared, despite knowing that there's bound to be snow at least once in New England in any given year.

Oh, what fun it is to ride in a Shawn-drawn sled tonight. . .

It's all fun and games until you get some snow on your face, your mittens are falling down, and your boot comes off enough to look like you have a horrible ankle injury. . . Can I come inside now? It's been an awfully long 10 minutes outside. . .
