Big Boy Bed!!
After much frantic scrambling and gathering of miscellaneous debris, Mommy and Daddy finally cleared out and set up Paul's new bedroom!
While the decor is still lacking finesse, the room is functional and reasonably safe, so we experimented this afternoon with a nap in the Big Boy Bed:
Despite some initial jumping out of bed and rattling of the baby gate across the door (placed to prevent him from rummaging through the non-child-proofed upstairs half bath and falling down the stairs), Paul settled down to a short, but decent, nap.
Tonight, while climbing upstairs, Daddy asked Paul if he wanted to sleep in his Big Boy Bed or in his crib, and Paul clearly said, "Big Boy Bed!"
Can you find Paul under all his blankets and toys?

Taking it like a man.
Paul did very well with his catch-up booster shots on Friday afternoon. He was drawing with a pen (PEN! PEN!!) in Mommy's day planner (NOTEBOOK! NOTEBOOK!!), and only paused to briefly scream in rage as the nurse administered the two shots before resuming his diligent note taking.
Then, we went to Trader Joe's, where he growled at one of the employees, and tried to pay for the groceries with his Zoo admission card. Then he passed out.

So, today has been a difficult day. Paul woke up cool but congested and cranky. He didn't eat much breakfast, only napped about half an hour, got easily frustrated while playing, and didn't eat much lunch. We went out for a walk - it was cold but sunny - and he slept for about 20 minutes, and was kind of logy for the rest.
I didn't realize he'd fall asleep SITTING UP. . .
By the time we got home, his temp spiked to 104.8. He took Tylenol, Motrin, and lots of water. Once the medication kicked in, he had some pretzels and Nilla wafers, and played a little while. Eventually, his exhaustion turned play into frustration, so I put him in the pack and play thinking he might nap a little while. . .

Sorry for snickering on camera - it was just so funny. Don't worry, though. I (gently) tipped him over, and he got to sleep for about an hour.

Wanna Buy a Duck?

Busy day. . .
Yesterday, Paul and Mommy spent the day in Ikea with Grandma Shelly, and hung out for a little while with Asher (who does a really scary dragon imitation), Jacob, Sophie, Aunt Andi and Uncle Eric (feel better, Uncle Eric!) (Grandpa Steve was mowing the lawn).
Today, Paul woke up at 4:45am all ready to go. . . back to sleep for another hour or two with Mommy. After breakfast, a quick nap, a little play, and some lunch, we went and did some more shopping. Paul has been a very, very good boy, and shopping today was extra fun, as he saw lots of other kids his age being schlepped around by their mommies.
Once we got home, and Paul finished his car-nap inside the house, we played up in his room, and then down in the basement. It was kind of a tough evening on Paul, as he had two mishaps - pulling a (very lightweight) wire basket down onto himself, and then rocking so energetically in his bouncy seat that he fell forward and and upended the entire seat!
Luckily, some hugs, kisses, and spinach-cheese tortellini helped Paul feel better, and he went right to sleep after his bath.
Time for Mommy to get some sleep too, while the sleepin' is good. . . G'night Daddy - we miss you!

General update
Since Daddy is away on travel until tomorrow, Mommy was on day-care driving duty today. It was nice to see Paul get very excited when he recognized me, and it's especially nice since he's started reaching out his arms to be picked up (began a day or two ago).
He was cheerfully chattering at me and examining his pacifier on the way home, until he flung the paci out of range (I still can't find it), which ticked him off. He began complaining and fussing, and even me dropping a different, lint-covered pacifier from the bottom of his day-care bag onto his head didn't seem to appease him.
Then less than 5 minutes from home, I hear ominous quiet, and look in the baby mirror to see. . .

He's got his mommy's sense of timing, all right. . .
Other new things:
He slaps at the food on his tray with the flat of his palm, as if to smash it flat. This actually causes bits of food (like cheese and Cheerios) to get flung off the tray and all about the room. I'm not sure what he's trying to accomplish, exactly, but he seems to enjoy it.
He has also begun to rock his upper torso and head against the back of the highchair - actually, slamming his head against the padded back - which alarms mommy, but which daddy shrugs off as "he's enjoying the movement." Paul does not seem the worse for wear, and daddy is the cognitive psychologist, so. . .
Paul has also learned that he does not like to hear the word "no" (for example, when he tries to pull down the shower curtains while taking his bath), and will scream like he's been stuck with a large, hot, pointy stick - and diverting his attention is becoming increasingly difficult as object permanence collides with stubborn will.
But then he giggles like a fool when I make a silly face, so all is forgiven. . .
